The best decription for this blog is what ever is on my mind, from hair, to food, to story ideas for my novel, to odd bits of info.

I am now an Internationally known hairstylist.  A man who lives in Holland but works here in the U.S. admired one of my client's hair at a restaurant.  This week he brought his wife and daughter over from Holland with him for their spring break and made a suprise appointment for them to come see me as a suprise while they were here.

This is the honest to God truth.......... I'm just glad it happened to me.

Last night while in the check out line at the local Top foods, I saw this really cool foil job on a lady.  Wow! I thought to myself, that is a really good color job, the colors work together well and is placed nicely..............  When the woman turned around I was pleasently suprised to see that she was MY client.  As it turns out, she is the first of my 'Mervyn's Girls'.  I do the hair of almost the entire Mervyn's management team.  the Store Manager, the Assistant Manager,  The Assistant Manager's daughter, the Human Resources Manager,  and two department managers......... Too bad they will all be leaving at the end of Dec.

Since I have been back to the Everett salon.  I have done awesome hair.  I'm not as busy as I would like, but that will start to come as my latest creations start spreading the word of my abilities.  (yes, I'm bragging).

I've done cut and color on Identical twins, changing them so that they don't look like one another anymore.  One I took almost black with blonde peekaboos through the layers and heavy stripes on top.  the other I did a Red star on her crown with black accents underneath.

Last weekend I went to the WestCoast Hair show.  the latest trend in hair is BANGS.  heavy bangs.  Late sixties, early seventies bangs.  thick, and blunt and round around the face.  Paul Mitchell is making this look their focus this year.  but the other major companies, Pravana, Chi, Matrix etc... are doing it as well.  After looking through a hair mag. the other day, I was hard pressed to find hair that didn't have bangs....... So I have started using it in the Salon.

Last May, the H.R. manager of Mervys came to me for a foil.  It was a great color job.  Last week the Manager came to me because what I did to her friend.  I achieved the color she liked and then pushed the envelope on her cut, taking it out of the mainstream.  She had already had full bangs which were quite long and in her eyes.  I cut the bangs in to an arch over the left eye and then took them straight across over the right....... out there I know, but she had beautiful eyes and it drew attention to them.

Well, as Effrick said.  The Regional Mangager has put the stop on me moving to the Alderwood salon.  One of her excuses was lame, and I will have to speak to her about it.  the other had some valitity to it.  The Everett salon has lost 4 senior stylists in the last two months.  All but 4 of the current stylists are fairly new out of school.  I'm hoping that if I'm REALLY good that in a few months or so, I may be welcome to transfer to the Alderwood salon........ Oh well.

The Everett Salon is scheduled to re-open Sept. 8th and will be celebrating with 20% off all services.  One good thing about working at Alderwood, is that I was able to pick up a few new clients. : )

While the Everett Mall Regis is Closed for remodel, I have been putting time in down at the Alderwood mall Salon.  Whoah, what a different world.  there are twice as many stylists, of whom most have been doing hair for years.  I feel intimidated by most of them and hardly worthy to work in the same salon.  BUT, Since day two of working there, the other stylists have aske me if I would stay.  I put off to them being kind, but they have been more and more persistant.  I kept them at bay telling them that if Arrillio (the Regis guru and manager) asked me, that I would consider it.  That was until the other day........

On Thursday I was again dealing with the "why don't you stay here?" conversation when Charleene asked me the same thing.  When I gave her my little spiel, she looked at me and told me that 'She' does the hiring at the salon, and that she would LOVE to have me work there.  So I went home and talked it over with Jessica.  After another two days of thinking I told Charleene to look into me transfering...

I'm a little upset with Regis with the upcomming salon closure........... That's right, Regis is closing our salon for a remodel.  It was supposed to take place last May, but they couldn't get their act together.  We were then hoping for June, and gave up in July.  Suddenly last week we are told that the salon will be closing in 2 weeks for a total of 4 weeks.  4 weeks of sitting at home not working...... Oh, we get minimum wage for that month...... whoopee!  Do they NOT understand that the End of August is the back to school rush?  Do they not understand that people who came to us in May and June for blonde streaks NOW want to start going towards fall colors? Originaly it was going to be closed for 2 weeks, 3 at the most..... Aaaarrrrrgggggg!

Now to top it off.  The designer for the new Regis salons obviously ISN'T a stylist.  Our stations are half the current size with 1/4th their drawer capasity.  Our brushes only fit in at an angle.  NO room for women's purses.  The new decor is rather stark and sterile...

One thing has been missing from my story........ a Rogue.  I need a character to stir the pot everyonce in a while....... I also need him to be a provaior(sp) of inconvinient objects.  If the Princess would like penguin stuffed with unripe elderberries and spores of cacti, sauted in the juices squeesed from a Griffon's feather ........ This character would know exactly who to 'acquire' these ingredients from.  I have the name of this character figured out....... Effrick worked on it last night  The results?....... His name is......

Nevyre Elbailer........ Catchy, huh?  I figure Nevyre is close enough to sounding like 'never' and Elbailer is 'reliable' backwards......  My biggest problem right now is how I'm going to introduce him into the story...... how should he look?............. So far, I have him being an old friend of Kadyr.  The two met on one of Kadyr's escurtions as a kid......... I was thinking of having Nevyre running from some trouble and stumbling into Kadyr...... But would like some ideas on what kind of trouble, or how he should come across Kadyr.

The other day I had a young client who came in for a haircut.  Once in my chair and caped, her mother asked how much a haircut would cost.  When I answered $30, she rolled her eyes and mentioned to her daughter that she had better appreciate the cut.

I, feeling uncomfortable with the situation, asked the client if the shopping bags she had contained clothing.  After confirming that her mother had just spent a good amount on clothing, I broke it down for her......... To use later if her mother brought up the cost again.

The outfit she bought cost $60........... When asked how often she would wear that outfit each month.......... We figured once a week. So she would wear that outfit 4 times that month.  that is $15 for each day that she wears that outfit in one month...... okay, lets stretch it out to 3 months a cute pair of shorts and top will last a season.  wearing that oufit once a week for 12 weeks comes to $5 per use.   That $30 haircut in one month costs $1 per day and only and if cut only once...

I have noticed an inconsitancy with my Mantra.......... Under my signiture, I have a quote saying that "Good is the enemy of Great"............ SO  now I need to change my morning Mantra to "Do Great hair."

I have a little mantra I use before going into work............ No it isn't "Don't screw it up."  It is "Do good hair."  Doing good hair 1)  Makes the client feel comfortable in you and your abilities.  2) Makes you more confident, reinforcing #1.   3)Makes it easier to sell product to the client, and helps them in feeling comfortable in comming back to see you, and lastly, and I won't lie, it helps with tips.

Right now as a new stylist in a new salon, I make minimum wage + tips.  as I bring in more clientelle and speed up in my techniques, I will start making commision of 40%, after a year, 45% after another year, AND if I show that I'm a well rounded stylist and have consistanly brought in clientelle 50%........... It all goes back to "Do good hair." and you know what?  I am doing good hair........ I'm doing 'gooder' hair all the time, and getting gooder and gooder.

Today I did an updo for a bridesmaid.  several of the stylists pulled me aside and complimented me on my updo, which was a great...
