Honor, Chivalry and Our Growing Ranks

It has been too long since I scribed my thoughts. I put this to parchment with the hopes that it will find all my friends in good health and cheer. Once more am I astounded at the wondrous achievements of our good house. I am so proud to count all of you as friends. Our circle grows ever larger as four, albeit one very small, new members have come to join our ranks. Dalaich, Warinius, Caroline, and Padon, you are most welcome and I look forward to many years of friendship.

My travels of late have taken me to various fairs, tournaments and gatherings around central An Tir. I have seen many of you on the road or in our camps during this time. Though this Saturday past was a special gift, for all but a few of us were able to attend. As we grow it seems more difficult to get everyone together in one place. I understand that we have many challenges to overcome, and that each person must first look after their own homestead before turning to gather in celebration. I was very happy that so many could attend the Warrensdale Harvest!

As thoughts have weight, so it is that some are heavier than others. I have been thinking very hard about our commitment to the Barony and the Kingdom as a war band. I was pleased to hear our warriors say that we choose the path of higher honor, and will never kill a foe blindly from behind. I think this decision will serve us well , and show others our conviction for chivalry on the field. Our war fighting is improving, and we are starting to become a group to be reckoned with. Gone are the days when we could afford to count ourselves as useless. Gone are the days when we could take either side and not affect the outcome of a battle. As our ranks swell and our battle cries ring, we must choose sides carefully, for money or king. So think on this all ye warriors of House and Company alike, for the stronger we get, the more difference it will make.

In the past we have been mercenaries, and hired the same. We have also fought for Aquaterra, An Tir, and the honor of our house. I would ask you all as you think on this, to consider if fighting for gold or honor is more important. Banner war approaches, though it will be a long time coming, and we will have to decide where our allegiances lie. Please inform me if you are approached by another house about fighting at Banner War. If you know of a house that you think we should aide for a particular reason, please bring that to my attention as well.

So now I must sleep as I have been doing most days, for my crops require tending during the moonlight hours. Please think on these things that I have mentioned. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on the matters.

Eyeing the French 1550's,

Daði

Remember, if you choose to scribe your reply here, this is posted on the tavern wall and is by no means private. If you wish to speak with me in private please do so in the House and Company forum.

Changing of the Season

The excitement mounts across the lands as the first event of the new season approaches quickly. The All Thing will soon be upon us! Champions are soon to be chosen for the bountiful barony of Aquaterra. Pride swells in my bones with the deeds of the past year. The house of Meðelstede has made it clear to Aquaterra and the surrounding lands that we are a force to be reckoned with. Though our army is not the most seasoned, and our artisans not the most experienced, we have shown the southern realm of An Tir that we have the resolve that is so vital to success. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" />

My intent is to compete for the honor of being the Bardic champion of Aquaterra, performing and supporting the honorable Baron and Baroness in their court. I welcome any warriors that have a voice to come and raise it with me for a song of battle as part of this competition.

One point of interest the Baroness made clear when I spoke with her last was the lack of competitors for the champion of games. If anyone here fancies themselves as a gamer, they should consider putting themselves in the games competitions. I personally think the role of the games champion and office has been dreadfully underplayed in the surrounding lands.

I miss the season of travel and fairs, tournaments and wars. Fireside songs and stories of victory and defeat are soon to be ours once again friends! So strengthen your resolve, mend and polish your armor and ready your steeds for hard riding. The tourney season is once again upon us!

A gift for thier Majesties.

Our great house traveled to the barony of Dragonslaire to witness the crowning of the new King and Queen. On our journey to the Port of Gamble we were forced with a decision of great import. A body of water the size of Odins foot blocked the path most direct. There were men working the river and for a fee they offered us and our carriage passage. The journey around appeard to be long and treacherous, so our money we gave to the men, in hopes that they were honorable and trustworthy. We waited with many other carriages as the ferryman took journey after journey from shore to shore. Although we might have inquired about being granted passage before other less noble folk, we chose to stand fast until time turned to us. Sunburned and weary from wait, we finally boarded the ferry and set sail.

We went atop the deck and enjoyed the wind! My sons were rejuvinated in the gales that blew past as the stout ship made it's way across the waters. As if the hours of grueling wait and lack of motion were carried away with a quick puff of Thors breath. They ran and played on the deck until the bell sounded for us to return to our carriage and prepare to continue our journey. As I was heading for the stern ladder I stopped and gazed at the spectacular view that only can be enjoyed in the waters of AnTir.

Alas my ink runs dry. I will continue this missive soon.

A Celebration of Years

40 Years celebrated since the kingdom of the west was founded. From them we wrestled our freedom with a strength of northern people hardened by long and hard winters. The crown of AnTir has been a beacon of strength for us. Upon arrival at the celebration festival, Arnorr and Piers and some others had already staked out the encampment and shelters. After the household graciously helped us with our shelter and supplies, I began to feel the sting of the plague.

The next day I was bed stricken and fought off the devil plague for the next two days. On the third day I decided to take the wagon to find the apothecary to look for herbs rumored to have healing powers. My father accompanied me to the apothecary who worked her magic on me. I returned to my village and slept for a full week to fend off the plague that struck at my heart and lungs. By the fourth day of rest I was starting to shake the demons clutches. The marks from the leeches were subsiding and I decided to once again journey back to the celebration. I had responsibilities looming on Saturn's day.

I returned to the festival to warm greetings and was even able to sing a few songs that night. The next day I marshaled on the battlefield for our warriors as they practiced in various games contrived to hone their skills. The sun roasted me and without my hat I stood and soaked up his goodness until it burned my brow. That night I sang with vigor and we all enjoyed the company of passing bards and minstrels.

Their Excellencies of Aquaterra and some of their sergeants attended our household ceremony and beheld the ritual as we inducted our two newest members into the house. The new members of our house were most sincere in taking the oath. I believe they will be strong companions in the years to come.

Despite the plague and burn of the sun, I am glad that we journeyed to the 40 years celebration. It was an enlightening and joyful experience overall. Huzzah!

The rain begins to fall.

The rain begins to fall and I am awakened by the soft sound of water on the top of our wedge shelter. The rest of the men are still sleeping, but the children are awake quietly raiding the food stores under the Dragonwing. I can hear the ruslte of containers being shuffled by small hands. It is another day at the faire. Soon I will rise and greet our house with a smile broader than Frey's. Our house is growing quickly, spurred by the endless depth of the wonderful people who have already been drawn to it. Soon we will have to erect a great hall in which to gather. Arnorr and I have been talking about this great hall for a season and a half. We started off with a sturdy construction that woul last for many years, but soon gave way to a more portable construction idea that would produce a more portable structure.

I am not sure how big we should make the great hall. The one thing I am sure of is that we will most likely outgrow anything we build within 2 seasons. No matter. As our numbers grow we will become a meeting place for bards and minstrels, commoners and nobles. Our banner will symbolize an exchange of song, poetry and ideas. Such is the way of Meðelstede.
