Thinking of starting a new campaign
[size=18:3ea973f472]Thinking of starting DragonLance. I am not officially committing yet, so don't post for spots, but I am looking for feedback about that campaign setting. Any pitfalls, or other things that people don't like about dragonlance? I am a big Dragonlance fan, although I am not fully read as there are tons of novels. I read the first three, and remember about 1 book worth. LOL. I used to have the campaign setting hardcover book for 2nd edition D&D, but I have yet purchase it for D20. I am thinking of doing a game that is set in a time after the first trilogy. I will of course have to re-read the trilogy to do this. My biggest fear for using a pre-set campaign world (also one which has been read by so many) is that players will know more about it than myself, and project their pre-concieved notion of what the world should be like. Do you all think this may be an issue? I guess it would greatly depend on the folks playing in the game. The other thing I would like to do is keep the number of players down. I am tired of running games with 7 players or more. It is too hard to gain focus and start play. Well more musings later.. the effects of my scarey movie have finally worn off. I'm heading for bed! Cheers,[/size:3ea973f472]

Thinking of starting a new campaign
As I have told you else where..change it where you want to change it. Make it your own and give yourself the freedom. I don't think anyone memorizes the campaign the way they memorize the books. vlo

Thinking of starting a new campaign
My philosophy is play what you want to play and have a good time. Personally I have only read one of the DragonLance trilogies and barely remember some of the names :-D . If you want to run a campain based in the DraginLance world then do so, but throw in the caviot before the game starts that \"Everything might not be as it seems.....MUWAHAHAHA!!\", and that the wold is the DMs world and NOT the exact worl in the books. Besides.....if you have 10 people read a fiction book and ask them about the details of a particular scene a month later you will usually get 10 different version of the same story. That's what makes reading so much better than movies. You get to use your IMAGINATION to help assemble the scenes and play out the parts.....and no two psychosis are alike :o . As for DMing large groups.....you just have to be more of a hard ass about having people get their own shit ready BEFORE they show up to play. If they are not ready (or not present), when the session is scheduled to start then their character either falls behind the group (perhaps to get attacked on their own when they do get their shit together  ), gets played by the DM or another PC (whos goal it is to kill the slacker or at least use them as a meat shield  ), or simply does not take any action other than tagging along. If you get people that WANT to play and can manage their own shit then you should be able to DM almost any size group with a shit pot more ease than most of our sessions have been in the past  . The DMs only responsability should be managing his world and perhaps some sort of plot line. He should not have to create, maintain and mother the PCs. An ill prepaired PC is a dead PC......as it should be. Besides....you have enough players that are familiar enough with the game to mother along any noobs that may want to play. Once the basic guidlines are set the rest is just grunt work. I'll shut up now.....

warning
Thought , just thoughts about this..... Warning given It makes sence that more than 8 people is too much for any role playing host to keep the flow going at a good clip, and all the players ingaged. What I expect from my DM. 1) know the world he is bring me into, whether is it prefab. or made up. 2) have the ablity to help start the crew, but not maintain their characters 3) Help me see the world by using words, and drawings. 4) Throw in surprices here and there.
