A Night At The Inn of the Jolly Friar  (United States)

It was a very fun event this last night, and it did not last long enough.  Hosted by Master Wilhelm the Fartraveler and his Lady Aloise, each guest at the Inn was given a purse of about 15 silver coins and 3 commodities with which to do business upon your arrival.  The commodities could be anything from: a day's labor, a bag of oats, a donkey and cart, a religious relic, a man-at-arms; and so on.  All of the commodities were part of a set, usually 3, and if you collected all 3 than you won a prize later on.  My lovely Crearuluin collected all the bags of barley and all the chickens and roosters, netting herself a jar full of barley grain, and a large box of chicken soup.  My Lord Owain won a can of Popeye's Spinach, and his Lady Tessa won something too, but I can't remember what.  Theodric and Octavia cleaned up, winning leeks, a venison antler and at least 2 more things I can't think of.  In addition to trading commodities, Baroness Anastasia won a beautiful spear for ending the night with the most silver coins (104), when most everyone else only had 15-30 (or less).  Styrcarr and Buzzy made some decent coin brokering information between owners of commodities.  I heard Styrcarr would offer to help someone look for what they needed for a silver, and then turn around and charge another silver from the person he found when the deal was done!  What a businessman!

The night wasn't just about business either.  There was gambling too!  Crearuluin and I sat and played two games of "10,000" (dice game) with Michael Draklaw, Buzzy and Styrcarr's Lady; and Crearuluin won the first game.  We would have liked to play in other games, but the night ended too early.  Theodric was running a tablero board, but I didn't get to wander over that way.

All told, it was a very fun evening, and a very fun concept for an event.  Definately worth doing again next year.  And a very special thank you to my Lord Owain and Lady Tessa for the free babysitting (ala Rachel) that enabled both my lady and I to attend.
